I've got one approximate 2,000' long 3/16" line with 41 taps and about 60' elevation drop. I realize this is longer than suggested and more taps than suggested. It worked well last year, the first year for me on 3/16 with more than just a few taps.
This year I added a vacuum gauge at the top of the line.
It's been frozen for a long time since the gauge install and yesterday it edged above freezing and the 3/16" line just barely had sap moving with the little bubbles. The end of the line was dripping very slowly.
For the first time this year the gauge was reading 5 vacuum and I was wondering, do I have a leak, or does full vacuum not develop until there is a good sap run with good flow?
