So I did an experiment today. I got a second shurflo (4008) for a dedicated pumper for sending sap to the sugar kitchen. But before I installed it I wanted to see how it performed against my 4048. So I recorded my vac on the 4048, which was 13" (not much flow today). Then I replaced it with the 4008 pump, gave it time to level out and recorded my vac at 10".

Interesting results as I did not expect the 4048 to outperform the 4008 by 3" vac! I was also very interesting to take to pump off the main line and hear all the air rushing in and the sap in the main line shooting back up. We say 13" isn't much but listening to the main it sure sounded like a good force.

Cheers!

Don't give up on better vacuum with a shurflo. I pulled 24 on 200 taps last year with a 4008

Over the past 2 years my average vac is 15” or so. And I am in the woods almost every day. After I hike every line in the bush and everything looks good, I dont know what else to do. 15” gives me a ton more sap so I can live with that.

You may even want to change the gauges, possibly they are bad. I've had bad ones in the past, even 2 from the same batch.

I've got my 4008 up to 24" on 62 taps, 5 laterals running to a manifold. When I put the pump on it started at 10", fixed leaks, got to 14" found a broken tee almost to the end of the longest lateral, 800', fixed it got back to the pump and 24" . I'm only getting 5" on another one on a 600' 3/4" mainline, but it has 6000' of tubing feedin it. I know that mainline has a lot more CFM for the pump to evacuate. This is my first year using gauges- got them from Bascoms, net year I'll have on for each lateral- a lot easier to walk up the hill once, and walk around the high bench looking at gauges than walkig up and down each lateral from the bottom to top and back chasing bubbles. I have 18 laterals in 2 different woods most from 600-800' long from 660' ASL to 900' ASL

Thanks for the info. On my setup I have 400' 3/4 inch mainline and 13 laterals of 3/16 feeding it probably in the ballpark of 8k ft of tubing.
