So after tapping this year we have noticed some taps leaking down the tree. I don't think that they all could be out of round. It has been a issue yet but it looks like the real season is going to get underway next week. The only difference I can think of is that we tapped more on a cold day with no sap flow this year. Is it possible those taps backed out? Does anyone have any thoughts? Will they tighten up as sap starts to flow? Bad spiles? Tap in farther?

You created a wound. There will be a little seepage around the outside of the spout for a few days until it dries out. Just leave them alone. If they're still leaking after 4-5 nice days, tap them again a little with a tapping hammer.

I have seen and heard of certain splies backing out if there is a freeze.

Thank you! I'll keep an eye out for it this weekend hopefully if it runs finally. With any luck they will be good to go without having to tapping in more.
