I've heard that trees should be 40 years old before they're old enough to be tapped. I have two sugar maples in my yard that we planted about 25 years ago. They are 12 and 14" inches in diameter. Should I be tapping them or will I harm them if they're too young? I tapped them last year before I heard they should be 40 yo.

40 years is the rule of thumb for when a maple becomes big enough to tap in a woodlot. If your trees are 12" and 14" go ahead and tap them!
