Here is the situation. I boiled on Friday and planned to boil today so I just did a warm circulating rinse and a cold rinse. But I had a freezing issue in my pump line today and I dont think I will be able to pump till Saturday. Is it ok for the RO to sit that long on just a rinse? The RO closet temp is usually around 40*. I am all out of permeat from my last rinse.

AS long as you did a full rinse there shouldn't be an issue. If you have sap in the Ro then that is an issue but it sounds like you don't. So the question is did you do a full rinse or a partial to get by? Are you detecting an sugar coming out?

I did a warm circulating rinse for 10 minutes then rinsed my remaining permeat (around 90 gallons) cold rinse down the drain.

If you didn't use any soap or acid you've got nothing to worry about. How much permeate storage do you have? You should have at least 2 times what your RO is rated for. I have 550 gals for my 125, soon to be 250 RO and am planning to up that to 660 gals for next season.

My permeat tank is 300 gallons.

Your post that stated that you used about 90 gallons for a rinse had me thinking that you only had 100 gallons for permeate storage.

He's probably in the same boat I am by not having big enough runs to produce excessive amounts of permeate yet.

You nailed it. Usually the end of February marks the mid point in our season but I have only averaged 1 decent run per week for this February...

Last season I made a quarter of my syrup in February. This year I haven't even gotten enough sap to collect yet. It looks like it's going to be a late start here this year. I'm hoping that it isn't going to end early too.

I don't see anything promising in the forecast until March 11th. I've only made syrup in April two or three times over the years. Hoping for a crazy three weeks! lol

A couple of years ago and the year before that it was too cold well into March. I made most of my syrup in April those two years. One of those years I boiled a couple of times in February, five times in March and the first 2 weeks in April. The next year I didn't boil in February at all, only 4 times in March and did the same in April. Both years I made a full crop. There is still hope.

One of those years I was all tapped early but didn't get enough sap to boil until March 27. I still got a good crop.
My forecast now shows ideal sap weather from March 11 all the way into early April. I hope they are close to right. Based on that forecast the sugar should also be better than I've had the last 2 years. In 2017 my season average was the lowest ever, at 1.25%, in 2018 it was up to 1.7?, I'd need to check my log book. My typical is 2%+/- about 1/10 point, often starting at 2.1-2.3 then falling near the end to about 1.8 or 1.7. Two years ago I never had a day when it was at 2.0, my high, just 1 day was 1.9.

I appreciate the historical data. That makes me feel better.
