I was thinking this one from amazon (link below). I'm just starting and don't want to pay an arm and a leg. Looks good, but worried about being too cheap.

Yes, bought a bunch of them for the schools in our syrup contest. They all appear to be made by the same manufacturer but boxed differently.

You might want to buy one that goes a little higher than 10 brix if you plan on building or buying an RO. Mine is zero to 32 brix and I've concentrated to 18% before.

Ditto Russell Lampron. This will be okay for measuring sap brix but it doesn’t go high enough for measuring syrup. Syrup is ~ 66 brix. The one I have goes from 56 to 90 and also has %water that I use for honey.

We have 3 refractometers and recently went back to using a hydrometer. It is far more reliable in a cold sugar camp!
