I have been dealing with high winds this year so far. I have gotten tired of trying to find the white test caps in the snow to seal the top of my holders and having to rehang them every time we have strong winds. I came up with this solution. Cheap, quick and could be done in the field. 1/2x #8 SS sheet metal screws, (could not find 3/8), rubber bands.

One rubber band around the tap and one over the top to hold the cap.

Still allows it to move but have not lost one yet.

I did something similar, but I just did a quick over itself loop on the rubber band to the tap, then with the big loop thats left from the rubberband, just pull it around the PVC. Holds up really well, no need for the screw.

You will see unfortunately though in a few weeks the rubber bands dry out and they all start breaking. Ive not found a cure for that except to replace the rubber bands.

Good luck!!

Glue the lids on as the sap will drain out the hole you have in the side. I buy cases of 8 ounce water bottles on sale and put one in each of my sap bags-no more problems with them blowing away.

I put a 4" piece of tubing on each tap. Have not lost one yet.
