Jim,
Not sure I follow exactly but sounds like you may have 5.5 inches of sap still in the tank????

It will work fine as long as you have enough in the tank to have some head pressure when you start. Also a nice trick someone showed me is to start on permeate and once your primed up and running switch your valves and pull in your sap, only reason to do that would be if you only had 5-or 6 inches of sap in your tank for some reason.

As other have stated it will work with a tank with a bunch of sap it in. My tank is set up maybe 3" lower the only time I have issues is when the tank is getting near the bottom. If I have to shut down to change filters or the ro sucks any air it is a bear to get going to drain the tank. Raise the tank if you can, it is on my summer list. But i have to raise two tanks and restring a wet / dry line to get it to work.

As others have said raise the tank if you can. It will make life easier. You will also probably have to change the filter more often or it will suck air when the level gets too low. That can happen even if the tank is elevated, just not as often.

thanks . easy enough to raise, just makes it harder to clean.

We would have had the same problem but we chose to raise it 6". The tank completely drains before the RO starts sucking air.

We are installing our sap tank and putting it up off the ground 16". That will be enough room for the fittings and still above the inlet of the CDL 600 RO.

It will work without raising it but you will need to make sure that the outlet pipe is completely empty when you're done to keep it from freezing. If you raise it pump priming and draining the outlet pipe are no longer problems. I have mine raised so that everything is sloped down to the RO.
