So the. Property I purchased has about 20 trees 12-30 inches in diameter. On Tuesday about half of them are getting torn out for my road access. I hate that but there are no other options. I looked at the upcoming weather and saw above freezing as highs till Tuesday so I thought I would do some experimenting on the trees that are coming down. Tonight I tapped 8 of them and they all started dripping right away. I plan to go back in the morning to tap two more.

One of them was flowing super heavy. It was running down the drill. When I put a spout in I noticed it was darker. Not sure what that means. It was flowing much heavier then the others.

Put a few taps in each tree. They’re coming down anyway.

If they are hard maples? Move the road! Takes 60 years to get some new ones!

You most likely hit rotted wood full of water. If it slows or stops it's bad wood

So I picked up my buckets this afternoon. I dumped it all in to a 6 gallon bucket. Not much compared to what many on here get but it will be a good learning exercise for me before the main run. When it all that’s out, maybe tomorrow, I will run it through the bucket RO.

So I ran my almost 5 gallons through my new RO5 bucket two times and ended up with a a little more than a gallon. The gallon is now in the fridge waiting to be boiled down.

Can I wait till the weekend to boil it down or should I do it sooner?

I have been told to treat it a little like milk. Milk is good in the fridge for a week or 2. Above 50 degrees it can spoil pretty quick. So I have been told ;)
