So I buried this tank, and built a filter house, I'm looking for an electric pump that I can have on 2 floats to fill our bulk tanks, everyone says dont use a sump pump, so I'm wondering what to use?1922519226

How many gallons do you need to transfer and how fast?

It's a 300 gallon tank, and our gathering tank is 550, si I'd think somewhere around 40 gallons/minute would do it, the intention is to have the filter tank continue filling the bulk tanks while the RO is running to save some time so we can "dump and run" lol

I've used a submersible pump and a bilge pump before. I change the way that I do things and move sap with gas powered pumps now. I'm not sure if the submersible pump and bilge pump were for potable water or not. I'd go with a submersible if it is suitable for potable water.

You will not get 40 gpm, but even a little diaphragm pump will self prime and then push the sap where you want to move it. I use a 3.2 gpm to pump permeate thru my tankless water heater to get hot water, and I also use a SS sprinkler/booster pump to move sap. That is 1", but it only moves 10 gpm at about 5' lift, maybe 9 at 10' lift.

Is that sprinkler pump self priming?

Along the line of Dave’s suggestion, a jet pump with a foot valve. Once
primed the foot valve will prevent sap from flowing back therefore keeping prime.

A sprinkler pump needs to be primed before using but will stay primed until drained. You would need to drain it if there is a chance of it freezing otherwise it will stay primed when shut off.

I bought a 3/4 hp Goulds stainless steel pump last year , it works great, it's a water pump with a stainless pump head, that is rebuildable. It was not cheap but pumps 40gpm easy .

Priming is never an issue because the tanks are always at least a foot above the pump.

Do you know what model number pump you bought? I'm also looking for a stainless pump to transfer sap from vacuum releaser tank to head tank, too many Gould numbers for me to make sense. I need 110 volt single phase. thanks

I lied it's a half hp pump, it moves alot of sap though, and I always pump through a 5 micron household style water filter.

I got it through F.W. Webb, I think that it was in the 450.00$$ dollar range, but there is no doubt it is safe to use and will probably last a lifetime.

Thanks Nate, that's exactly what I was looking for. I also send my sap through a filter on it's way to the head tank.
I use a Rusco Spin Down filter, works great.

Sometimes you have to Hammer on those FW Webb guys a little bit, lol, tell em that they cant make it "All" on one sale. All joking aside I could have paid in the 500 range I'd have to go through my paperwork . I have an account with them and they are super to deal with, generally when I call it's in my Sugarhouse the next day. I wouldn't doubt it a bit if the prices went up too, ya know those tarrifs apply to pumps built 2 years ago .haha enough of peanuts from me I guess.
