Howdy fellow MapleTrader members...

I've been lurking here for quite some time and figured it was time to post. I'm a hobby syrup maker...in Western NY. Been boiling off and on over the past decade on a homemade evaporator with 3 steamer trays for my pan. Up to now, I've only had about 10 taps in per season, but have enough trees available to me to triple that. Finally convinced my wife that we needed a sugar shack in the back yard and started setting posts at the end of September. I finished the floor up and got my final inspection this week.

Here are some pics of my 16'x24' shack with a 12'x16' open storage area. I wanted a bit of an old timey look, so I installed a floating wood floor, with a paver hearth that will be the home for my Mason 2x3 evaporator that should be here soon.

This is a great forum and I got a lot of ideas for my own building from the site.

I'm sure I'll have questions once I get my first 'real' evaporator...but for now, just wanted to introduce myself and show some pics of my sugar shack.

That's a nice looking sugar house and you're going to like the Mason evaporator. It's good that you built it bigger than what you need right now. There's plenty of room for a bigger evaporator and an RO room.

It looks very inviting! you will fill it with bright shiny maple toys, and probably have to add on in a couple years!

Very nice! However I thought my 16x24 would be too large. It is now too small. In it, I built a small RO room (3' x 4' x5.5' long and 6' high, the 3x4 is one end 3' the opposite end 4'), 2 small chest freezers, a wood storage rack, a filter press, a water jacketed bottler, a 2x6 finisher, a large solar inverter, a sink and about 18' of counter space. That lines the walls, then the 3x8 evaporator in the middle. If I buy a pencil I can't fit it in, I need more room. If I was smarter in the beginning I'd have built a 20x30 or better a 24x36.

I really like the look. You respected a traditional look and it shows. You will have a lot of fun and see more visitors in that comfortable and welcoming space. Well done, now go enjoy.
