View Full Version : Outlet line from RO to head tank size
I am getting a new Leader MicRo2 RO. The outlet lines for concentrate and permeate are 1/2" id. I would like to step up to a 3/4" id line to the head tank (about 20 feet away, 8 feet or so high). Just making sure that increasing the line size is not going to be a problem. I assume that the only problem will be extra sap that drains back when I shut off the RO. The reason I want to use the 3/4" is because I already have it. I am somewhat experienced with RO's having had one of Ray's 375 RO's as well as a D&G 600 RO. The Micro2 is part of my downsizing plan.

I wouldn't think it would cause too much issue. More pipe volume might create more head pressure though? I ended up using a cut down 25' RV hose in 1/2" for my RO to the head tank.

wnybassman,
You would actually have less head pressure when pumping. Under static conditions the head is just the height difference between the pump and the tank level. But, when pumping the larger pipe would have less frictional loss so you would have very slightly less head loss... Approximately 4 psi less if the flow rate is 5gpm for example.

I agree, going larger should be fine, going smaller would be a different story.

Going up to 3/4" won't be a problem. If you flush the sugar when you're done concentrating there shouldn't be enough sugar in the line to worry about.
