Suggestions on a bulk tank level gauge

I was going to plumb in a hose barb and run a piece of vinyl hose as a bulk tank liquid level gauge for my bulk tank. Does anyone have a better solution or suggestion?

That works. But if you come off your feed line it will read lower when sap is flowing.

That works fine for me. Yes if you are drawing off at full discharge it will give you a slightly lower reading, but in operation when it is filling the evaporator controlled by the float valve it is plenty accurate enough.

We use a stainless float ball tied to a string with a large lead fishing weight tied on the other end. I have a few thumb tacks one for full, empty and a red one for the last fire.
