Anyone here go over the recommended taps for a guzzler?

I Had 450 on a Guzzler 500 12 volt last year. It worked ok, only downside to them is they are low CFM pumps . They are somewhere in the Ball park of 1 CFM if my memory serves me correctly. So the tiniest little leak and your vacuum suffers alot, you could be at 24" at noon time everything is running good, and go back to collect at 4 and have 5-7" because a squirrel chewed one lateral.
I had it on a hybrid system , meaning 90% of my laterals were 3/16. I might consider selling the Guzzler I have if your interested

Thank you for the offer but I picked up two 500s in the summer. I have around 525 on 3/16 gravity and want to pull it another 1000 feet to a stone road.

It will work, you just need to stay on top of the leaks. I think that you could put them in series, that should work good, try to set them up in a manner that its easy to change out the diaphragm. I would start the season with a new one and it will last about 2 weeks of steady use.

I am not sure what rate they pump at but 7.5 gallons per minute would be 1 cfm. If you run in series you will only get 7.5 gallons per minute or 1 cfm but in parallel would be 15 gpm or 2 cfm.

You are right super sapper, that's a very good point.

Are those diaphragms destroyed due to ice/slush? How much do they cost? How quick to replace one? Thanks.

The Diaphragms just wear out , there is a crease/fold if you will on every stroke, once the sap starts running in earnest I don't turn the pump off. They always tear along that area where they fold, they just get thin over time and fail, usually the vac will drop like 2" and then the next day they tear completely. The Diaphragms are cheap i think that last ones I got where 20.00$$. I can usually get through the season on 2 Diaphragms. I have a manifold with a screen in it so the pump never sees ice.

I can change it in about 5 minutes.

Do you just run them one in front of the other?

No, if you did that it would be in series and you can only get the volume of one pump. Run the suction of each pump separately into the line.
