Hello all!

I have an old Grimm filter press that I picked up along the road back in the spring. I am thinking about putting up up for sale. I have never operated the press and the person I got it from did not know anything about it.

How should I go about testing this press so I can know if its functional and what repairs if any are needed?

The pump was stuck but only took a little hand pressure to free up.

About the only thing that wears out with a press is the pump unless it was really abused. You could try the pump with water if it will pick up a prime and you can get some pressure with it it is probably alright since the syrup is thicker than water.
Another thing to look at are the plates and sections as long as they are not warped or damaged they will be fine.
If it is all in working condition then you should be able to get close to the price of a new one. Presses retain their value since there is so little that can wear out. Like said the pump is the biggest question.
good luck
