Hey all,

I will be picking up my Deer Run RO 125 Hobby next week (yay!). I need to place a concentrate tank to feed the evaporator. I have options to put it outside or inside. I was thinking outside would be better as it would keep the concentrate colder (sugar house is heated) and there is more room outside for a tank. Inside would be easier to access and clean but I don't think this out ways keeping the concentrate colder. Thoughts?

I have always kept mine outside, on the north end of the sugarhouse. My tank now is just 150 gal SS sap tank. I had built a platform for my 2 previous tanks that were used for the sap or concentrate, that platform is 8' x 10'. I have loads of room to walk around and clean the tank. The tank there now is 3' x 4' x? high and I have it butted against the sugarhouse wall. Then I have a cut out in the wall about 10" x 10" and the valve is inside the sugarhouse. I rarely get a freeze up because I usually empty the tank every day. Then I wash it before pumping more concentrate to it the next day. The head tank sets about 2' higher than the inlet float in valve. Once the concentrate enters the sugarhouse it flows thru a pre-heater in my hood and then to the in float box. I have never even had to vent air from the system, even though I built the pre-heater with 4 vents just in case.
I just like keeping the concentrate cold.

I have my concentrate tank in my woodshed which is on the north side of the sugar house. I try to keep the concentrate as cool as possible to keep it from spoiling.
