My RO is going to reside in a 2.5ft x2.5ft x6ft insulated closet in the sugar house. It’s insulated with 2.5 inch foam and I used expansion foam to seal the edges & seams. The door also has 2.5 inch foam and compressible foam around it to create as best a seal as I could.
Do you think I can get away with a brood lamp and a 100w halogen spot light? Or one of those ceramic reptile bulbs? Will this be enough to keep the space heated and protect the RO?
Thanks.
My RO room is about 4'6" x 8' and I use 2- 250w heat lamps on one circuit and a third 250w heat lamp on a back up circuit. Each circuit has its own thermostat. This system has never failed me in 13 years. The heat lamps seem to have a very long life and I have only changed about 3 of them during that time.

I originally used 2 incandescent 100W bulbs on a thermostat. It worked to heat my RO room which is 2.5' tapered to 3.25' x 5.5' long and 6' high. It's insulated with 3" foam and 2" on the door. That worked well as long as 2 bulbs kept going. However one would blow and the other barely heated the space. I then added a 3rd 100W bulb and if one blew it was still good. I never trusted it, the bulbs I could still get were short lived bulbs, not like 20+ years ago. Thus I changed and connected an electric heater in there, set on 1250 watts on the same thermostat. My electric is on my solar system with back-up batteries. Thus if I lost power the batteries carried the load. Then the next year I bought an 8000 BTU propane direct vent wall furnace hooked to my bulk tank. If that ever fails I still have that electric heater hooked up, so far my sugarhouse has never lost power since the grid was first connected in Nov 2012.

Thanks guys. I suppose using a small baseboard heater would work. I might try it this year with a heat lamp and then install a baseboard for next year.

I just saw these wall heaters on Amazon if ~$80.
Any thoughts on using this in the small RO closet?

My RO room is 6 1/2W x 13L x 7H. The first full winter I heated it just by leaving the lights on ( two 4 ft. fluorescent fixtures ). I also tried a small oil filled electric room heater a couple winters. On almost the lowest setting it stayed over 50 degrees. Now I have a 40 gal propane water heater in that room. It only cycles on a couple times a day and seams like it will keep the room warm all this winter. I will be keeping an eye on it and may use the room heater as a backup if needed.
