View Full Version : Sucking up hill to the mainline

Due to the contour of my hillside, I've got about 20 trees that sit below the mainline.
I'm not interested in building a sap ladder, but I'd like to suck them up to the mainline some how.
It's about a 5 foot vertical rise for most of the trees up to the mainline and my vacuum pump typically runs at 24 Hg.
Any thoughts on the best way to suck them up hill?
Thanks!

I would use 3/16 on them, and run your pump till it freezes

I do just that on 5 laterals using 3/16. Works good on 26+ " vacuum, I do not know how well it will flow on lower vacuum.

You could just tap them high and run them in I have some we tapped about 9 feet up and ran them into the mainline. We just stood on the 4 wheeler. Another way is to tap them normal then make a loop go up and around the tree and into the mainline. I’ve heard it called a monkey ladder there were pics from a big installation that used them. Both of those work. Either way I’d use 5/16”.

Your pump will suck the sap up to the mainline. I have one line where we pickup up 2 trees sitting right beside the mainline and barber-poled the lateral around the tree and connected to the mainline 6 feet above. It's not ideal but it will work.
