Was looking for screw top buckets for making 55 gallon drums into sap storage tanks the screw top buckets become a man / hand hole for cleaning. I'll cut these screw top bucket tops off just below the protrusions cut a hole in the side of my 55 gallon drums and plastic weld them into the hole. But when I saw these I though they looked like a really nice way to store syrup also? Anyhow I've never seen them before so I thought I would post this for others to see. Built in cover wrench............clever hey? Heard some bad reviews on the gama covers leaking this one is water / vacuum tight. If cage tanks are made out of HDPE you could weld these into the tops of them for cleaning access also. Jay

Zucker The one thing I learned about screw caps under pressure or vacuum is they are hard to open. Now plastic drums might collapse in and that might relieve the problem.

Storing syrup in plastic is not a very good idea in my opinion. Were these drums specifically designed for finished maple syrup? Even the so called official plastic drums are not widely used and many packers frown on them.

Another issue could be if that bucket/top can take hot syrup. You still need to pack at 180F+.

Hey Flats I just looked and your right it doesn't take the heat Specs say "Filling Container: 40 - 180 F". Looks like the 180 is max. I will be using to make man hole covers in sap storage tanks myself not for storing syrup. I just needed a water tight lid for making the manholes in my sap storage tanks because I dump snow on top of them with my loader to keep cold I didn't want something that would leak dirty snowmelt inside. I think these will work for that? Jay

I have used the foodgrade buckets and hot packed them. Now I will caution I wouldn't pick them up by the handles until cool. I stored the syrup for 2 years without any noticeable deterioration. When I did open them for repacking they were still under vacuum.
