Here’s what we made this year! We bottle in the sugar house during the boil, which allows us to really see how the grades change through the year.

If anyone has any idea why these photos may be upside down, I’m all ears.

We tapped end of Feb, really warm and only 7” of snow at the stake (southern slopes were bare, my dog had a tick on her after tapping). Made some AR and then went to DR. Basically right around the line between the grades. Sap was up around 2.8%

March brought almost 60” of snow. We made our lightest syrup of the year on March 27,28,29. Right in between GD and AR on the grading kit. Sap roughly 2.4%

With April came a lower sugar content, about 1.9%. We finished with DR, would have been grade B in the old days. Darkest syrup I’ve ever made (I made buddy syrup lighter than this in 2014)

Lightest and darkest of the year:

You're in southern Vermont....that's below the equator isn't it?

Yup...felt like the Antarctic a few times this winter.
