Here in Montgomery County just above the Mohawk River in Fort Plain,it's again snowing.Ron's remaining bucket has about a gallon of frozen sap. He's going to keep it there until the last day. Snow is coming down hard enough to coat the trees and yard. He's been working on the snow blower(waiting on a gasket) after 18 years it was in rough shape. Then put that away and get the rider mower in shape. Waiting on the apple trees I ordered for his 72nd birthday. They should be here next Friday. Then I'm getting a couple of peach trees. The idea is to make this little village lot into a mini orchard, raised bed vegetable garden and more shrubs(Arbor Day Foundation sending those soon),a small pond for the (wish I could have chickens)rabbits, skunks, whatever. Pretending to be back at the farm...sigh... The cold weather has kept me in all winter. No woodstove here. Made another batch of maple nuts yesterday. Everyone loves those. Ok,now snowing so hard the corn field across the road can't be seen. Everyone take care. It's a Kindle day for me184861848618486

It's snowing here too, pretty hard right now. I was going down this afternoon to put up a mainline that got broken when the anchor tree was blown over and the tree hit the sugarhouse (it's now cleaned up) but the wind is up around 40 MPH, not a good day to work in the woods, I'll do it tomorrow. A week from today will be my last for the season, then cleanup and get ready for my surgery.

Snowing here today too! No sap likely for another two or three days. Everything is frozen solid.

I noticed you mentioned raised vegetable gardens are in your future for your new property. I'd like to heartily recommend livestock troughs or galvanized frames for your raised beds. I put in two last year and was blown away by how wonderful they are. I purchased them through our local TSC store. This year I am installing additional beds - likely another six of them - except these ones don't have bottoms so are easier to level. The ones that I currently have are 8'x3'x3'. I really like the ones that are three feet high, because I am tall and enjoy working at waist-height. I grew so many vegetables in my beds last year that I was giving them to everyone I knew.

For some spring-time inspiration, watch this fellow's video. He uses the same technique that I do to create these amazing raised gardens. I can totally recommend these type of garden beds if you want to be blown away with how easy gardening can be when you aren't constantly bending over!!

This is a photo of my two troughs in early July. By the end of the growing season they were so full of vegetables it was crazy.

We're going to put it to good use, tommorow is the family's sugar on snow celebration. Its been quite a few years since we had fresh snow. Got to make another batch of donuts, the first of 4 didn't survive.
