Is there a rule of thumb for the distance between the bottom of the drop flues and the top of the brick in the arch? I have a 2x4 smokey lake hobby pan. The arch has a six inch stack now but have insulated eight inch for next year. Just wondering if any of this would make a difference.

Personally I would have the bricks basically touching the flues w/o a pan gasket installed, then when you install your gasket, I use 1" you get about a half inch gap.i like about a half inch gap under my flues.
