View Full Version : Gravity feed to RO. Can I use a pump?

I recently bought a small RO for next year. It requires gravity feed from my sap tank to the prefilter as there is not a booster pump. Rather than elevating my raw sap tank and permeate tank for gravity feed, can I use a small transfer pump between the tanks and the RO prefilter? I have my tanks on caster wheels and would like to leave them so I can move them around as needed. The RO is rated for 50 gph and I see 1/10 hp transfer pumps that are rated for 310 gph. Looking for suggestions.

I think most RO systems have a feed pump so you should be good adding one on yours.

Yes add a feed pump. Main pumps like to be fed rather than having to pull the sap with no help.

On my RO, it has a low pressure pump that at best only gets 30 PSI, then as the prefilter starts to even slightly restrict the flow it gradually drops the pressure and if it gets down to under 20 psi the instruction say to change the pre-filter. I now usually use a SS booster pump and my pressure is then between 70-80 psi. That also gives me a slight boost in GPH on the RO, but only about 10-15 GPH more on my 250. Until this year I didn't do that, but I think I'll continue.
