Ok i only make syrup for my family so colour is not important to me. It is all about the taste. My bulk tank froze over for the past two weeks but now i have started boiling again. I am wondering if i should worry about the sap in my tank. It has gone cloudy but still tastes fine and smell fine. Wondering if I should just dump the 150 gals, wash eerything quick tomorrow night and start fresh. The weather looks awesome this week so i won't be put much if i dump it. Thoughts?

Here is a picture for reference. As you can see there is still a big layer of ice in my tank.

I was just in the same boat as you,I had sap frozen in my tank for 2.5 weeks,I boiled some on my kitchen stove and tasted fine.I boiled it and another run off today and it made a light medium delicious syrup.I wouldn't hesitate too boil it,just try a little on stove too be sure.If it was frozen rock hard it's probably ok.

Motoman, fill a small/medium sized pot with the sap and boil it inside on the stove. You'll know within a half an hour what syrup made with it tastes like and if it's worth boiling the rest of the stuff in your bulk tank.

If it's been frozen for two weeks it's probably fine.

Like Karen says above, boil a few cups full in a pot on the kitchen stove. If it smells and tastes good, it's fine.

I had very similar looking sap. I tasted the sap, and it tasted fine. I boiled the 180 gallons today and the syrup tasted fine. Two days ago, the sap was clear. If I were you, I would boil it.

In 2 weeks, that sap will look pretty good! Boil It!

Boil it and move on. It will more than likely make some of the best tasting syrup of the season.
