I have a 6x14 wood fired rig .. Am moving to new location... Might do oil fired instead . Does anyone know what the equal to my 6x14 rig is but oil fired.. I have 3000 taps no RO . I know they operate different so just seeing what I should get. Then ill design my sugarhouse around that.

You will go broke on oil rig without r.o

Not a expert here at all! I would guess that without a R.O. you would need a 6 x 14 as mentioned. You dont get much of a boost if any going to oil in my opinion, but I have been known to be wrong. The evaporation rate is pretty much set with the surface area of your rig. oil is just a different type of heat source. Years ago we burned 8 gal of oil per hour on a antique evaporator 3 x 10. Could only make about 2 gallons of syrup per hour.
With a good R.O a 3 x 8 oil fired rig might be the ticket on 3000 taps,

Chris
