View Full Version : What to do when filter press pump motor dies....

Last night, early in a big boil the motor that drives the gear pump on my filter press died. There was some initial smoke and we figured it was the belt, but then the motor tripped on thermal protection. We got it going again when the motor cooled but then no go. My friend had the idea to turn the pump with a drill and turns out...that works! We were able to get 40 gal. through the press, albeit at about half the usual speed. I'm not sure anything but my Milwaukee Magnum could have handled it however...

Surprised nobody has come out with a drill driven filter press pump.
Drills can be used for all kinds of things. An old tiller I used to have broke a recoil rope one time, and this was the fix for a couple years. lol

Nice. It would actually work quite well for a small hobby press. Save the cost of the motor...
