I currently have a residential RO setup with 2 100 gpd membranes. I want to eventually add on to this. Can I add in another membrane in series rated at 150 gpd?

Adding a 150 gpd won't help you much as far as gpd. Your 100gpd membranes will only let at best 100gpd through them so it wouldn't matter if you added a 150 in front of or after your existing membranes you can only get 100 through it. Why don't you just change your 100 gpd membranes out for new 150's?

I was looking to get the most life out of the 100s as they are only a year old. From what I have read it sounds like I could improve my setup by going to 3 or 4 150 gpd membranes with my aquatec 8800.

Membranes are rated by how much permeate they can produce not the flow rate through them. The 100gpd rating means that the membrane has the potential to produce 100gpd of permeate but it does not limit the flow through it to proceeding membranes. This is limited by the flow rate of your pump.

So in answer to the OP's question....yes you can put different size membranes in series with your existing membranes to improve your system as long as your pump produces enough flow and with an 8800 you should be fine with adding a couple more.

yes you can add another - I have found that there is not much difference between running 5 or 6 150gpd membranes in series. If you add a 150 definitely as said earlier put it first.
