Had some real gushers last week, but not much has happened since then. I know many of you are on gravity or vacuum and you have different experiences.

What do you think for those of us on buckets?

Buckets will keep running. If we get some classic up and down temps and sun they'll run.;)

They will run again when the right weather gets here. That is unless you tapped 6-8 weeks ago. Bucket tappers need to wait to tap until the right time, those who jump the gun often loose out on the best flow days of mid March thru early April. By tapping early you may catch a few OK early days but when the best sap flow potential days get here, those on buckets may get little or none. Tappers with tubing and vacuum can get sap for about 2x as long, whether mechanical of gravity vacuum (3/16).

March is the month to make syrup in NH and the best part of the season is almost here. The snow that we are getting now is going to give the season a much needed boost.

I tapped a week ago, so I should still be good.

It’s going to give my legs and snowshoes a boost. I see a lots of ups and downs in my mood for at least the next week.

I hear you. All of my taps are on the side of the road. It’s down the hill, then carry them up and over the shifting snow bank. My mood will be fluctuating with yours.

If it is cold right now, you are guaranteed at least one more run :D But hopefully many more than that!

Russ,
I figure it will keep the cold around the trees and prolong things a bit longer ......
Bring on the snow .....

Yesterday and today combined I got 225 from 700 taps on high vacuum. Not good but tomorrow and Monday look better.

Over here in central NY, I only got about 2 gal Friday and zero Sat. on 27" vacuum. The trees and lines just never thawed. Today should be better, should get flow by noon at the latest, then good flow for 3-4 hours if one forecast is right, zero if another is right. One shows a high of 36, the other shows a high of 30F.
Forecasters are the only profession where they can almost always be wrong and still make big bucks.

Weathermen AND politicians; both generally wrong and well paid for it.

Between the cold and the wind here we've been on hold for the last few days. Today and tomorrow look good here, then snow and cold for mid-week. Any one else having really low sugar content this year?

I didn't get much Friday and yesterday but it started running by 10 this morning and by 6 this evening I had collected 650 gallons. 450 of it was from today and it was still coming in pretty steady.

I'm with you Scm... Nothing for days. I'm hoping it does something today, before we get burried in snow again!

It opened up a bit for me here in the Lakes Region yesterday and today. My 3/16" lines, pulling 17.5" Hg dragged in 1.25 GPT and the 5/16" sets drew around 3/4 GPT. It's still running strong now but the temp is heading south as the next Nor-Easter comes in. Looks like were going into hibernation for the next few days. Good luck all.

It got a late start today but the results were about the same as what I got Sunday. I got 450 yesterday and 425 today. That combined with the 200 that I got Friday and Saturday made 1075 for the boil tonight. Looks like it will be a few days until I boil again.

Been pulling in about a gallon a tap all week here on 3\16 in short afternoon runs. early buckets feb 11, slowing down a little, last weekend's buckets are doing well 3\4 gal per tap. Looks like today will be the last good run until the middle of next week up here in the mountains....according to weather forecast...we'll see.

It looks like we're going to get a little run here tomorrow and a little better run on Thursday and then it's back to freezing temps until the middle of next week. It's always better to have a sap flow stoppage because of cold weather than it is because it's too warm. As long as it doesn't warm up and stay warm we should have some good runs when the weather breaks.

Ran so hard it blew the lid off one of my buckets!

Ours started running midday yesterday and continued into this morning. I can’t wait to see what I have when I get home today. We’re in the process of switching lines from 5/16 to 3/16, what a difference. Now we are swimming in sap. Hopefully we’ll get the new homemade ro going tonight to help with all the sap.

Monday I had 15 gallons of sap from 35 buckets. Since then I've gotten 5 gallons of slush, it's been cold every day with a high yesterday of 35 here and it doesn't look.like it's changing any time soon for me. Hopefully my buckets don't dry up waiting for warmer days.

When did you tap them? The buckets I hung in February are just starting to show sings of slowing down a bit. Figure they have one good week after this cold spell before they start to putter out.

My 3/16" lines were still running last night even with the cold temps. Everything else was frozen solid. I actually expect the 3/16" lines to run again today, but not much else. I am sold on the 3/16" concept and plan on changing everything possible to the smaller tubing next year.

I'm going to pull my taps this week –*I'm out of wood and have made plenty for myself.

If you'd like to collect, there are 35 buckets out and they're full. Let me know.

Half on 2/12 and half on 2/19. They've come back though... Got 35 gallons Saturday and 30 on Sunday.
