Anyone have any simple formulas or charts for figuring out 50/50 split for syrup? Im the boiler and have 2x the taps but it doesn't seem to be working that way when i do the math for the syrup to go to the guy dropping off.
I am using the rule of 86. Take the % divide into 86. Tells you how many gallons make a gallon of syrup. Then figure how much he brought into that. Then divide by 2. Thats what he gets.
Ex. 1.4% 150 gallon
86 ÷ 1.4 = 61.42
150 ÷ 61.42 = 2.44
2.44 ÷ 2 = 1.2 gallon syrup he gets or 13.2 ibs.
Seem right?

Issues always arise because you never make as much syrup as the sap to syrup calculations lead you to believe. One point off on your SSC measurement (hard to get 100% accurate), inaccurate sap volume, loss of syrup in filtering, etc. etc.

There is always some "shrinkage" in processing and transfer of sap/syrup from one container to another. If you can wait til the end of the season to divide it up, you can calculate it based upon the amount of syrup your made, not how much sap came in.
