wrench for 5 gal jugs

does anyone know of a good source for a wrench to get the caps off the nampac blue 5 gal. jugs? Grainger? McMaster-Carr?

I think Bascoms sells some, but there $20+ each...

I've been using my channel-locks, but the caps keep getting chewed-up.

I was thinking the same thing and I only saw them at bascoms.

I use the rubber strap wrench, it's adjustable and works with lids and all kinds of other stuff.

What it boils down to is knowing what to call it. A search engine will get lots of answers if you ask the right question. The tool is called a bung wrench, there are many varied types.

Thanks for the links- I'm not sure if the bung that those wrenches match with the cap that I'm using on my 5 gal jugs. The jugs I'm using look like the ones at the bottom of this page

shown as a kerosene jug. The one at bascoms had a round open head that fit over the outside of the cap and seemed to key into the small "fins" on the cap...

I tried a google search for a bung wrench but nothing seemed to jive with what I saw at bascoms...maybe I'll just use the channel locks and a rag to protect the cap...

Try your local swimming pool supply. If they sell liquid chlorine they should have the wrench that you're looking for.

Don't improvise, get the right tool for the job!
After you screw up 3 caps and have to buy replacements, that's the price of the tool.
Depending what you get for your syrup per half gallon, well there's the cost of the tool, one half gallon of syrup.
A while back I thought I could replace some tubing without a tubing tool, you know the ole knaw and chew method.
Yeah, one $200 filling in my front tooth latter and hell that's what a tubing tool costs!!
So, now I'm behind $200 from what I could have been even up!
Just my perspective on the situation.

has anyone tried to make a pattern of the cap and then cut out a wrench from quarter inch plastic with a scroll saw?

reviving my old thread here. Just found out the my adjustable oil filter wrench- a KD3368 - works just fine opening the blue 5 gal jug tops.

Just my 2 cents! But the maple inspector told me that you should replace the cap every other year as the rubber gasket will leak and give you a mould problem!! Jim L.
