Ash pan on wood floor

Unfortunately our sugar shack has plywood floors. Just wondering what you guys do as far as the ash pan. Concrete slab on the plywood? Throw down firebrick? Plate steel? Thanks for the help!!!!

I screwed panels of 1/8 inch diamond plate to the wood floor under my 2X4 Mason evaporator.

I would screw down a few layers of cement board. Although unlikely any kind of metal could end up getting too hot.

I built my sugarhouse from scratch and literally built the floor around my 2x6 which sits on cement blocks on the ground. When I swapped out my original evaporator for a forced air, I put down a solid row of cement blocks. Putting the solid cement blocks on the wood floor might give it too much height, but could you cut a hole in the floor and put the blocks on the ground?

When I had a wood floor, I laid 1 layer of full 8x16 x 8 blocks on the floor , big enough for a hearth sticking out 3' in front. Then I capped that with a sheet of 20 ga galv sheet metal, bent down about 1" on the edges. That was to prevent hot coals from falling thru the cracks.
Under the arch will not get hot enough to cause any issues for the sheet metal, but I suggest you have at least a layer of some kind of masonry blocks or bricks.

We have sheet metal on the floor under the entire arch and a few feet in front so when you feed it the sparks fall on the metal. Been working fine.
