I'm looking to put together 1 or 2 vacuum systems for my mainlines (they are not close enough together to share one system). I haven't found a diagram/plans for one, so I am trying to make sure I'm on the right page. What do you think? What am I missing or what should I do differently?

Do I need a pressure gauge at the top of every lateral or just one?

Also, what is a releaser? Do I need one on here?

Thanks!!!

Oh - the idea of the valves and two lines into the holding tank is so that if I don't have the vacuum pump connected or on, that I can switch it over to the gravity line - only one line would be open at a time.

Can I let this run continuously - or do I need to turn it off to save the pump? Or to prevent ice buildup? Seems if there is sap in it to freeze, it would pump it through before it froze.... no?

Thanks!!!

I used this pump,

connected to my 3/4" mainline with this fitting

A: Unless you absolutely have to have your pump in the middle of the line, I'd put it at the end and alleviate the valves and extra length of mainline that you are diverting. I used those unions to connect the pump, it took 4 minutes to hook up the pump to the main and the battery and she would pump away. 1400' 3/4" with 250 taps on 3/16. I did not use vacuum gauges, but I did measure up to 30 gph of sap coming in on good runs. Ran it off of 3 old deep cycle batteries, one was a 27 and 2 were 31 series interstates that I pulled out of my boat about 6 years ago. I was getting 12-18 hours on them, swapped them out and hauled them back to the barn to charge, and I also had a 15W solar panel hooked to the one on the pump. My pump and collection tank is about 200' from the house, so I used the quick coupling to pull the pump off and bring it in so it wouldn't freeze. This pump WILL allow sap to run through when it is switched off or when the battery dies. I have read that shur flos won't but I do not have experience with them. I did the research on everflo and they use the same santropene material as shurflo, rated for potable water. They have a 5.5 model I may get next year.
