After missing out on the early run last year, I was motivated by last weeks thaw to put 3 taps into a swamp tree on plastic jugs Sunday the 18th.
Checked two days later after all that rain and got a quart of brown water.

Weather looks promising this week, so put two more taps in a different tree. Not seeing too much (any) flow here in Washtenaw County.

Here at North of 47 won't happen till mid. March. Brown water after rain is usually water coming off bark

Collected enough this week to start my 1st batch of the season this morning. How nice it is to have the steam rising off the rig again.

Sap is running good today so I collected more to add to what I already had to keep the feed tank going. Getting a nice Amber color in my large divided pan. Starting to smell real good in the shack now.

I tapped last weekend. Ended up with about 120 gallons of sap the first week. Tapped about 50 trees on buckets. Forecast looked more promising than it turned out to be. Not nearly as many nights below freezing as they forecasted. Still pretty happy with what I got. Ended up with 2.5 gallons of finished syrup. I leave for vacation 3/26 so wanted to get as early a start as I could knowing my season would be cut short. Tapping mostly Norway Maple and some Sugar and was happy getting 2-3% levels all week.

Tapped our 300 ish taps on Feb. 17, Have made 5.75 Gal. So far.

Finishing off 2nd batch tonight or tomorrow. Sap is flowing like crazy!

Looks like a couple of days off in the S.W. corner of the state. Cold nights this weekend. 80+ gals. so far

I set 120 taps in the SW (about an hour north of IN, and an hour east of the lake) on the 17th. So far I have collected 650 gallons, and finished about 12 gallons of syrup. Flow should return here on Friday.

Collected 55 gallons of crystal clear sap from my 50 taps yesterday evening. Looks like I will be busy again this weekend. Keeping the sap ice cold until then.
