Soak it in boiling water. Loosens right up.

That's about it. I've also done it by clamping a visegrip plier on the main body of the Y to give the mainline tool a place to catch, but that takes trial and error to get the placement right in order to work. The hot water works good, but only heat about 1/2-2/3 to keep part stiff enough to push it on, at least that helps for me.

I do what Flats does with visegrips, and have had good luck.

Ok, thanks guys... will try the vise grip trick... looks like the maple world needs to invent another specialty tool...lol

Vise grip already invented it. Just be careful not to squeeze the fitting out of round.

We built our own mainline tool. The base of the unit is like most others you find. We made the bits (clamp units) so they can be removed. We added on which was offset and this works for the "Y" fitting. You can always heat with a torch, but not too much heat.
