I put in 16 taps yesterday 2-14-18. Most of them in OLD growth trees.

Today I checked the sugar content via a new sap hydrometer from Bascom and it read 3.9% sugar.

I'll post a picture later.

Many more taps will go in as I have time.

A little jealous! I haven't got my taps in yet and have never had sugar content that high. Mostly younger red maples in my woods. Good luck with those trees, hope they keep it up.

I finished the season with 29 taps and made 22 gal. I could have made a couple more but gave a good bit of sap to a friend in need.

Here are some pictures of the 3.9% tree as well as some bottled pictures.

That's an impressive yield of syrup for that small number of taps. The sugar content is a real bonus! I collected 1850 gallons of sap from my 280 taps and only made 31 gallons if syrup.. I'm certainly even more jealous of those trees you have now.
