Anyone ever cut a plastic bottle and slip it over the end of the drill as a depth stop. If so any pix or comment how does it work? Does it stay on the drill ok ?

I just draw a line around the bit with a Sharpie at the depth I want.

I just use a wrap of electrical tape around the bit ...
A piece of 5/16 tubing works pretty good and stays in place.
I bought 2 metal drill stops 15 years ago. One for the new bit and one for the backup bit. Two set screws make sure that the stop never moves. When one bit is done, just remove and put on the new back up bit. I spent about $4. apiece for the stops and never have had to worry about the tape getting ragged or the sharpie line disappearing. The most important point is that with a metal drill stop, you can never drill a hole past your desired depth.

Still a wood dowel, cut the length you want. Stays on great and is cheap
