help! I want to add adapter fittings to my cage holding tank to reduce the flow into a small RO but have no idea what fittings I should use to go into an eventual 1/2" line. Does anyone do this and do you have a pic or item list you can share?

What size outlet do you have on your cage tank? I bought a buttress fitting to pipe thread adapter from global industrial supply, for 17$ then you can reduce from there.

My tote had a 3in threaded end on it. The local hardware store had a 3in to 1/2 reducing piece. I think I spent under $5 for all the pieces.

There are different threads on cage totes. Try looking at this link to find what your threads are. Then they have the fittings. You likely want to adapt to a NPT (national pipe thread) then bush it down to the size you want. http://kbung.com/drum-adapters/?campaignname={SKAG070217S0(TPPCG)}&adgroupname={IbcContainerFittings}&matchtype=b&network=g&device=c&keyword=%2Bibc%20%2Bcontainer%20%2Bfittings&gclid=CjwKCAiA78XTBRBiEiwAGv7EKjyLBCIUATJjrUaPCC49 J0visKjrAbvcTZlV3-GCv0e0hJnyLePPjBoCJPwQAvD_BwE

All the cage tanks I have come with a Camloc as part of the valve assembly. I would go to Murdoch's or tractor supply and get a few. You could get a threaded one and bush it down to 3/4 garden hose or get the cap/cover Camloc and thread the end of it. I like the quick change of the Camloc for the ability to clean it with full flow. I don't trust the pipe thread option they are two shallow and could strip off under duress and that would be bad.

The two I have both have 2” Male NPT outlets; but they look funny because they don’t have much threading. There was so little threading I thought they’d leak; but so far they haven’t. I just ran a 2” union, then a 2” to 1” adaptor, then for me a 1” female camlock since I’ve settled on that as my standard hose connector.

I started using this cam lock adapter on the threaded fittings, but most of those threaded fittings were just designed for dust covers.

Like dsaw, I thought they'd leak, but there is just enough thread that they don't. Then I got a tote that had a new thread that was not NPT. I tried and tried to figure out which thread it was and in the end I just went with this adapter which is worth every penny in peace of mind.

Many IBC Totes have either 2" NPT or 2" Buttress threads. those are the most common, but there are other threads available.

I prefer the buttress threads myself. less chance of cross threading them.

There are also some with various European threads and British pipe thread

This is what I got and then reduced the pipe end down to my 1" hose. Of course I see the 1" are out of stock, but they work great for me. Might be able to find them elsewhere.

Mine also. there is a cap over the original seal that uses the threads. but I do not feel they were intended to hold the product. just hold the cap to protect the seal. the cam loc is the way to go in my opinion.

I bought my reducing fitting from global industrial online. I think it reduced to 1" or 3/4 then I got a stainless reducer to 1/2 and ran that into PEX into my sugar shack. They have a lot of different options to choose from.
