View Full Version : Portable Induction Cooktops & Beer Kettles for Bottling?

We're looking at devices and methods to bottle syrup, and have considered the water jacketed bottlers (which I prefer), coffee urns, and other ideas - many of which have been posted on MT.

I was talking with my beer brewing friend that's been interested in a better kettle, so I did some snooping around (I'm not a brewer, but a consumer). There are beer kettles (like a triclad bottom) suited for induction cooktops (different than an electric cooktop) and are supposedly the "way to go". Induction is supposed to provide an more even distribution of heat and eliminate hot spots - ideal for syrup.

My questions are if any of you have used an induction cooktop for a heat source, and what challenges or successes have had, AND has anyone used a beer kettle for bottling? Any challenges with heating, hot spots, etc. FYI: The syrup will be coming out of a filter press directly into the kettle.

I'm aware that the cost point of purchasing the examples new could be prohibitive, but the kettle could be multipurpose: brew beer and bottle syrup.

Boy for that price a water jacket canner would be a better way to go

Even with a water jacket canner you need to be careful about the water temperature. Too much heat (close to boil) and you'll have cloudy syrup. Take your time and monitor the water temperature.
