I'm not great at adding pictures to the site yet but here's one picture and I'll send more I believe most of what I've tapped are all the same species I just got a hydrometer for sap a couple days ago and look forward to checking my bucket's today to see what sugar content I'm collecting currently from the pictured trees.
I would love to know for sure but most of these are so mature the first limbs are probably 40 feet in the air so it's tough to identify them when the leaves are on.

Those could be red maples but I don't know for sure. If you could snap a photo of the buds that would be a clear indicator.
As far as I know, even my mature sugar maples still maintain a kind of platinum/grey colored bark. Those look more light brown/yellow.

All the pics seem to be red maples. Would have to see the buds to be sure.

Reds with a good canopy will usually get you 2% or better. It's all about the crown, more leaves = more sugar. Those are all reds from what I see. Keep tapping. Be careful not to overtap, 10-17" DBH 1 tap max, 18-25" DBH 2 taps, over 25" 3 taps if on buckets, if you get vacuum in the future, you use fewer taps. DBH is the diameter at breast height or more accurately for tapping "at tapping height".

Wow, thanks for everyone's reply!
I made syrup in 2016 last( 27 taps, I think about 100 gallons of sap= 1.6 gallons of syrup as closely as I could keep track)1 st yr tapping ever...
How do red maples rank for sugar content normally?
So if I can somehow get a close-up of a bud now will that be a sure way of me knowing what kind of maple I have?
I actually milled a tree of same species that was hollow from ground up to about 6' above ground( rest of tree was solid good wood)it did have a red look to wood grain.
Let me see if I can find/ post pics of that (maybe that help to IDENTIFY excact species)

It was blown down for 2 yrs before I could buy a chainsaw/ milling supplies to do that, but I have about 20 boards that are 11' long and 28" wide by 1.5" thick with a couple I milled 4" thick to make benches( got 1 in my sugar shack now, pictures to come...)
