Received my goodies today from CDL, I got 100 spiles, 500 Ft of 5/16 tubing and new drill bit and a spike puller.

Is it 2019 tapping season yet? Lol

Feel free to contact me, we are still running. And will be boiling tomorrow. Don't know how long day to day at this point. I have a CDL 250 Hobby RO and 2x8 evaporator that I would sell as I would like to upgrade next season. 613-849-3180 Chris Lamer. We are 5 minutes north west of Belleville

We will be done this weekend. Tomorrow will be a big boil which will likely spill into Sunday. With the high temperatures forecast for early next week and our very low energy we will be done no later than Sunday night.

It's normal to be tired of making syrup by the end of the season but when it's been 53 days (and counting) since the first boil and 63 since you started tapping we won't shed a tear when the last fire goes out!

Pressure washed the steam away and syrup pan today, came out nice and shiny with no acid. Will let steam away dry a couple of days, then lift it and pressure wash the flue pan. Started washing tubing in one bush today since the weather finally got nice, but ran out of water with the leaky Lapierre saddles

Ennis we are with you, we are also pushing for a finish this weekend, By Sunday all the extra wood we cut will be gone. We are pushing to make one more drum to hit 1.9L per a tap. 8 out of 10 drums in golden and 2 in amber. And 0 Dark. Real strange year. Too make syrup, this year it was surly was a lot of hard work. Long days, and thank heavens for an RO, god only knows how much wood we would have needed this year! If feel sorry for those who fell short, well some of us had the best year ever.

We are most certainly done! We got through what sap we had on Saturday and left a bit in the tanks hoping for one more boil on Sunday. Despite a hard freeze we got almost no sap from most of the bush by Sunday afternoon so we pushed the evaporator through with water, rinsed The Beast and filled it with sap to soak for a month. The RO is drained and put away and we got 450 taps pulled to clean up one section of the bush.

Final numbers were:
- Our best year for syrup/tap
- Our best year for total syrup
- Average 2.1% sugar. Not bad for an area that was hammered by caterpillars the last 2 years. The money to spray our bush last spring was worth every penny!
- Average 135 gallons of syrup made per chord of wood.
- 17 boils in total. More than normal but we got sap in dribs and drabs.
- Our best woods for GPT was our oldest section of bush at just shy of 20 GPT. We replaced a lot of the mainline and half the laterals last year and it certainly looks to have paid off!

We hope to get the rest of the bush cleaned up this coming weekend if it all possible so we can finally take some time off. We are exhausted after such a long season.

Booo !!! Who is out there? Lol.

Well I have spent the summer gathering wood and skids from various locations.... I have a crap load of skids for 2019 season and a bunch of wood in the forest that I cut in the spring when I was done tapping. I need to get my shed in order still and get the evaporators up to it.

The last 2 weeks I spent a few hours in the forest with one of my sons gathering wild mushrooms, and marking maple trees. I have not done a count yet, but it has to be well over a hundred we have marked for tapping.

Hope everyone had a great summer, be safe my friends and see you in the spring

Cheers... Al
