i was wondering if a tree has poison ivy on it will it effect the taste or cause health risks. talked to one of the sugar makers in the area and he said it has never occured to him.

Shouldn't affect taste, but it will become burdensome to the tree and likely kill it in time. Cut it close the the ground and it will start turning loose over time and eventually you can put it out easily. I guess you are referring to the bigger stuf like 1 to 2 inch stem in diameter.

We have several trees with poison ivy. I usually try to move some around while tapping and have gotten poison ivy several times during sugar season. doesn't seem to affect the sugar just the sugarmaker!;)
