I have read a lot of posts here and will be building an ro system before next spring.
main components will be 4" mes membrane with a Procon Pump Brass w/ 1143 Bronze Coupling 265 GPH 1/2" NPT - 170 psi Relief Valve with 3/4 hp motor.
I am looking for a cheap feed pump for before the filter.
has anyone used one of these pond pumps.

Don't use any pump not labeled for food contact or at least potable water use. Those pond pumps are usually made from recycled plastic, you have no way to know what the plastic may have been in contact with in it's previous life or lives. Remember, maple syrup is food and we never want to contaminate it. As you concentrate the sap, you also concentrate any contaminates.
