I've been thinking for a while now that light in there would be a good idea. Is the water/vapor proof fixture (glass jar enclosure with cage) that is offered in hoods and steamaways the only type food service light approved for these hoods? Or would some sort of LED fixture be acceptable? Anybody ever have an inspector comment or offer advice on the type of light that you have installed?

If an LED light is allowed, what would be recommended? I see strip lights, puck-style and even a stainless steel drain plug light designed for lighting boat hulls! (Hope your bilge pump is in working order...)

Anyway, a simple, plug in the wall outlet type of light is what I'm looking for.

Thoughts?

Thanks guy's.

I stumbled across these one day looking for LED replacement lighting for a project at work.

https://beeslighting.com/led-cooler-light/p/FDL-48-22L-UV-50K

They are cheap and completely sealed / vaportite. They are simple plug in lights that will run on 110 or 220. A steam hood is going to be a really rough environment for any light but for 25 bucks it's worth a shot.

These make really great drop lights for working out in the garage as well.

I put similar led light strips in my syrup pan hood. They put out an amazing amount of light. They're mounted just above the inside drip tray to catch any condensate dripping off the strip. Held up for 4 years now with no issues at all.

I've had one much like this for 6 seasons now https://www.wayfair.com/lighting/pdp/breakwater-bay-woolery-1-light-flush-mount-bkwt3713.html
