I'm looking to buy a 1" pump for transferring sap this year. Does anybody have experience with the Generac 1" Clean Water pump? http://www.generac.com/all-products/water-pumps/cw10k-6917
I know it's not a Honda, but it seems like a pretty good pump for the price.
Thanks.

Can't help you as far as owning that pump, but priming issues can be eliminated with careful planning, I draw off the bottom of all my tanks so my pumps always have a little head pressure . I never spend any time priming pumps. I hook the line on , open the valve and start pumping.

How do you get the sap out of the bottom when it is cold?

As a rule I always empty my Tanks before they freeze, only one time have I failed to do that in 3 seasons.

We use a harbor freight 1" pump. The pump is connected to a 1 1/2" line that is 1200 feet with a 40 foot rise. It takes about 20 mins pump out 400 gallons at that distance.
