Its been some time coming but we finally decided to build the new sugar house. The week after the last boil this past spring we tore down the old sugar house in prep for the new one. Late summer we poured a 20x40 slab with floor drain, put up 2 rows of blocks and started framing. Another few weeks and we will have it all weather tight, windows installed and almost ready for the spring. We will worry about getting the rough sawn siding up this spring, just need it tight for the winter. The actual building is 20x28, 4 foot overhang on the front, 8 foot over hang on the back will be all wood storage. 14x20' loft will be for summer storage and sleeping for the long overnight boils.

You have built yourself a really great looking sugarhouse!!! It is nice to build it such that you can keep it closed up tight in the off season to keep the critters out. Not sure what your previous sugarhouse looked like, but you have definitely built yourself a really nice one to replace it. Excited to see how it looks as you finish the rest of it.

This is what we started with. Left side was equipment, wood, and sap storage, right side was where the evaporator was. Having one large room, all sealed up, and tons of space to move around will be really nice. Also have a huge stainless sink to put in, gonna be installing a nice flattop grill too. We like to eat well while making syrup! Stay tuned, more pics to come. Thanks for the comments!

If I were 10 years younger I'd build one like that, great job.

Thanks. We have been talking about it for a few years. Our sugarhouse operation is run by a group of friends all in their mid 30's. Some of us have been making syrup since we started walking. And as you all know its an addiction that you just keep feeding...and here we are!
