Found this under some junk in my 1870's dairy barn. Its made entirely of wood. Looks like it has never been outside. Any ideas?16779

Looks like it may be part of an old vice

looks like an old wood clamp. I wonder if the threaded wooden bolt near the center drew a mating part towards the long portion, and then the threaded wooden bolt near the end, pushed that end of the mating long part away, thus clamping the the other end snug against what was being clamped between them. Somewhat like later versions of wood jawed clamps.

My guess would be part of an old cider press. They had to be all wood, since before cheap stainless steel, any metal parts would react with the acid in the juice and create off flavors. One thing I don't understand, though, is why it has screws in the middle and one side. Not a design I'd seen before.
