Hi everyone , near the end of our season our 2 stage sihi vacuum pump seized up. We took it apart and it had scale built up on the inside which would not allow it to turn. What can we do to avoid this scale build up in the future?

If you are using antifreeze to cool it there is a antiscale additive you can add to the mix....i drain mine at the end of the year and fill the pump with automatic transmussion fluid during the off season

CDL recommended vegetable oil.

I would think permeate might be an option if accessible? I used a water softener and a small reverse osmosis until to provide water to a sihi pump. It was a 24/7 365 industrial application, not maple.

We just use well water and store it when it's not in use with plumbers antifreeze. We have heard that using permeate will eat away slowly at the pump. We might try using soft water instead and see how it works

I would think soft water would be fine. Some well water is very "hard", add heat and scale is an issue for sure.
