View Full Version : what happens if there is rust in the pan

i was wondering if a pan has rust that wont come off .will it effect the syrup.
i would think that when you filter it the rust particles woud get filtered out.

Yes the big particles would get filtered out but not the taste. You must be talking of english tin pans. Stainless steel will not rust. If you have rust in your pans you need to clean some more. Cause you will lose flavor. And with syrup flavor means everything. It can look good but if it tatse bad your done. Hope this helps.

At the very least you should clean the rust and then you could tin it with solder that way it wont rust again. If the pan has a lot of rust you should begin to make plans on replacing it because not only will it affect the taste it will leed to pin holes

yeah i just got a new pan and i am throwing the other one away. it was a home made flue pan but he made the sides out of normal steel and took the bottom of another pan and welded it
