Hello producers,if you have been struggling selling any old syrup? putting a twist on things and putting it in a barrel for months on end will open your eyes in the end with some heathly profits to show for it.
This is my forth year making it and as a hobby producer ,the end sucssess is huge.i sell small 200ml bottles to fetch nearly $225 a gallon.
I have both the bottles and the the barrels for sale. to help you enjoy the end results as I do.
Take $130 for a 5 gal barrel and $125 for the bottles to fill it and $250 for most retail maple syrup is $505 and sell it for $12 -$14 ea($1080-$1260)-$505 equals$575-$755 off 5 gallons of syrup.

Are the barrels that are used in this process new or are they barrels that contained bourbon and are being reused to make bourbon aged syrup?

My dad used to get old whiskey barrels and make "swish"
And we are all lucky we didn't go blind. Some of it was pretty strong. And some batches turned out great.
I could see using new oak barrels and charring them then putting syrup in them. And then aging them in a bourbon aging like process.
Please explain more. Not a lot of info out there on it.

The barrels that are used for aging Maple Syrup is a barrel that did contain burbon at one time.you wouldn't get the flavor out of a plain barrel.
Flavors are to be described as Carmel, butterscotch, and vanilla with a maple note to add...

I think your triple the profits statement is a bit misleading. I have done this process and I can assure you that the time involved in the process is lengthy, along with the cost of the barrel (which you are clearly having trouble unloading), leaks and natural absorption loss (anywhere from 5-15% from evaporation and the syrup being soaked into the wood) and then the additional filtering and bottling does not equate to tripling profit. It does taste very good but when a 47 gallon barrel goes for $215 and there are 5 and 10 gallon barrels going for $130-160 that's a pretty ridiculous price.

Sorry to mislead anyone.it does take time to age,and there could be a loss of leakage.as far as the cost of barrels (a new 5 gal barrel is close to $275-300).but to get a freshly drained barrels for under half that is pretty fair.
I'm a person that would help any one out.
Milligkl,pm me...if I could help with cost in any way to try it for the first time, I'll do my best.
My goal is to promote this barrel age syrup.

Are there any regulations for this type of syrup.

I'm in NY..you would have to check with your own state or country.we do have to label acohol content,no grade required in NY

What's the bourbon syrup used for. I would assume it would not be used on pancakes, my guess is it would be good for marinades, BBQ sauce, dips, chicken wings, ribs. Anything else?

Are your 5 gallon barrels chared? What is cost to ship?

I see this market getting saturated quickly as everyone is seemingly getting into it. There is no way that I would pay the kind of asking price I have seen for this syrup, and consequently, most other folks won't either.

Fortunately it is not sugar makers that this product is being marketed to.

Bourbon aged/flavored is kind of the new food craze. It is similar to the bacon craze that hit the food market a few years ago. You could get bacon-flavored everything then.

I've got 3 barrels aging now, 2 @ 5 gal and 1 @ 10 Gal. I started by spraying permeate over the entire barrel and the ends several times over a 2 day period. Then I filled them with 190-195 F syrup. I have continued to spray them with a mist of permeate, the first 4-5 days twice a day, after that once a day, to keep the barrels swelled and tight. On one day it went about 29-30 hours and one of the barrels had a slight ooze of syrup that leaked out so it got a little at that seam but nothing dripped off into the tray I have under it. Ssince then I've tried to go no more than 24-25 hrs and no more leaks. I have ordered a misting kit and plan to hook up an automatic misting system. I'll see if it needs to run 1 minute every 12 hrs or maybe 2 or 3 minutes. Then it is going on a timer. The misters are similar to what Las Vegas casinos use at the entrance to cool you as you enter when it is real hot outside. I got them thru an irrigation company. Once installed I won't need to check on the barrels daily, might check once every few days, maybe 2x a week maybe 1.

one of the barrels had a slight ooze .
Your report made me remember and chuckle about a friend and his brother making (we call it "swish") in a whiskey barrel in the cellar of their parent's small town hardware store..
Big leak... every shopper left with a buzz for the next week or two. :D
