I'm sure someone has. Haven't heard of a lot doing it though. It would be a super easy way to keep track of daily sap boiled.

You shouldn’t have too much trouble with that.
I’ll be installing something very similar for next season.
It’s rated for 1-60L per minute so the count accuracy is going to be off at start up and shut down of the evaporator, say 5-10 gallons per boil, maybe? That’s just a guess.
The only other potential problem I see is sugar gumming up the little paddle wheel inside the device.
I plan to install mine such that it can be easily removed and given the occasional rinse.

I used a an old house/building water meter when put our pre heater on our old 2 x 6. It was neat how you could track the gallons. Then all of sudden we noticed a smell, looked & the level in front pan was down below top of the flues. Thankfully we have water piped to the shack, got enough in before anything scorched or burned. Found out the flow meter propeller stuck & restricted the sap flow, only a trickle was getting by. I took it out & threw it in the corner! After things cooled down(temper & pans) I did some trouble shooting, found that if there was a bit of water pressure the flow meter worked fine, but the very slow gravity fed water that comes from the feed tank wouldn't turn it around, thus restricting flow. Moral of story, be **** sure it doesn't restrict the sap!
